TRIBUTES continue to pour in for veteran journalist and pioneering editor Dennis Pather, whose career of more than four decades earned him widespread respect across South African newsrooms.

- MTHOBISI NOZULELA

He died on Sunday.

Pather began his career in 1967 as a reporter and went on to edit several leading newspapers, including Independent on Saturday and The Mercury. He was also a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University in 1987/88.

Former Independent Media journalist Mbulelo Baloyi described Pather as a supportive mentor who shaped the careers of many young reporters.
