A NEW special school has been formally opened - with a touch of pantomime sparkle courtesy of Jonathan Wilkes.

- Kerry Ashdown

The Avenue is a not-for-profit independent special school, launched by St Bart's Multi-Academy Trust, for primary school aged children with complex autism. It has taken over the former St Joseph's Prep School site in Trent Vale.

And panto perennial Jonny took time out from preparing for curtain up at Hanley’s Regent Theatre to perform the official opening. Pupils’ family members were also invited to join the celebrations.

The school is one of nine the trust runs in Stoke-on-Trent and seven across Staffordshire.
