Court told of paralysed cyclist's ordeal as taxi driver who crashed into him at busy junction is spared prison term
TAXI driver Khalid Mohammad left a cyclist paralysed when he drove into him at a busy city junction.
The 66-year-old’s Toyota Prius collided with his victim while making a ‘risky manoeuvre’ at the junction of Moorland Road and Wedgwood Street in Burslem.
Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard the rider was left only able to communicate ‘through facial movements or clicks. He cannot walk and spends ‘most of my time in hospital alone!
Now Mohammad has been spared jail after he admitted causing serious injury by careless driving on September 16, 2024.
Prosecutor Barry White told Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court: “The victim is a 53-year-old man who is now completely paralysed.
“He was riding his bike up Wedgwood Street when Mr Mohammad was approaching the junction from Moorland Road in his Toyota Prius. Mr Mohammad entered the junction and waited for an opportunity to turn.
