Restored Doulton memorial set to be unveiled

A RESTORED memorial dedicated to pottery workers who gave their lives in two world wars is finally set to be unveiled - a decade after the original was stolen.

A replica of the plaque - which featured the names of 59 Royal Doulton workers - is being constructed on the site of the famous pottery firm’s demolished factory in Nile Street, Burslem.

The potbank was closed down in 2005 with more than 300 jobs lost, and at some point later the memorial is believed to have been stolen.

Now the Kiln Gate Memorial to the Royal Doulton Fallen has been created and sponsored by St Modwen Homes/Miller Homes, Burslem Regeneration Trust, Port Vale FC, Fiskars and Hon Hugh Gibson, the former director of Doulton.
