Mind the Sycamore Gap
The Sentinel
|May 16, 2025
The historic tree may be gone, but its slow, steady life can act as a lesson to us as we struggle to root ourselves in an increasingly frantic, ephemeral era
"CAN'T stop!" cried the woman I hadn't seen for more than a year as she careered into view while I was out shopping last week
"You look well! Catch up soon!"
And then she was off, this former school-gate mum chum of mine, flying into the distance in a cloud of perfume and purpose.
Truth be told, I was glad she didn't linger; it would have delayed me getting to the dentist and then to work which would have a knock on effect on me getting home in time to eat and feed the cats and be back out again with friends.
Neither of us had space in our day to talk to the other. Tick tock. We're all on the clock.
Life's busy, isn't it? Places to be, people to see, no time to dally.
We're always scanning the horizon, looking for the next thing, planning for tomorrow.
