Three sites are dismantled after reports of anti-social behaviour
THREE makeshift homeless camps in Stoke-on-Trent have been dismantled.
Rough sleepers had established shelters in the grounds of Stoke Minster, off Pyenest Street in Shelton and at Hartshill Road, Hartshill.
The action has been taken after repeated complaints from nearby residents over anti-social behaviour and drug-taking. As part of the operation, nine community protection warnings were issued.
Staffordshire Police also made one arrest for criminal damage and threatening behaviour. Goods stolen in a recent burglary in Stoke were also recovered at one of the illegal encampments.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council's environmental crime unit has moved in to remove a large amount of dumped waste at the locations.
The Rough Sleeper Team visited the sites ahead of the action to assess the needs of the homeless living there and to offer them support. Four people have been signposted to further help through The Hub.
