New measures after inspectors call provision 'inadequate'

- Kerry Ashdown

"SIGNIFICANT changes" are now taking place at a North Staffordshire special school branded inadequate by Ofsted inspectors.

Roaches School in Knypersley was previously rated good by the watchdog, but its recently-published Ofsted inspection report said safeguarding measures were not effective and its approach to managing pupils’ behaviour was ‘weak’.

Inspectors also said the school must ‘ensure that all incidents of restraint are reviewed, risk assessments are updated and that staff have appropriate training on agreed approaches’.

The report said: "Frequent incidents of restraint are not reviewed in line with the school’s behaviour policy; this means that the school does not learn from its use of restraint, which places staff and pupils at risk of injury.
