Four out of five as Hanley

IN the First Qualifying Round of the Isuzu FA Vase Hanley Town breezed into the next round and a home tie with Birmingham OJM with a 4-0 victory over Wednesfield Community FC.

Tommy Van der Laan headed just wide and then Jake Twyford fired an effort over the bar as Hanley began on the front foot.

They dominated the first half but couldn’t score. That all changed in the second half within two minutes as Callum Middleton swept the ball home to give Hanley the lead.

Eden Bailey had a goal ruled out for offside but they doubled their lead in the 59th minute.

Twyford sent over a great ball for Middleton to head home his fourth goal in two games.

Ten minutes later it was 3-0 as Bailey had a shot parried only for Lewis Porter to slot home the rebound.

Bailey got his reward four minutes from time steered a shot into the corner of the net. It was Hanley's fourth win in five games and they take £550 in prize money.

Alsager Town also progressed thanks to a very late winner earning them a 2-1 victory over Redditch Borough at Wood Park.

Bullets' keeper George Byrne made a good save to keep the scores level after Redditch had also hit the top of the bar.

The visitors went ahead five minutes into the second half when Jedediah Warren Paul netted with a far post finish. Alsager were level in the 55th minute when Luke Nicholls flicked the ball on for Brayden Barlow to chip the 'keeper for his second goal in successive games.

Redditch had the chance to take the lead in the 73rd minute when they were awarded a penalty only for Byrne to make a superb save.
