Determined runner Carla takes on 62-mile charity challenge to thank air ambulance for rescue
A WOMAN airlifted to hospital after a horse riding accident is raising money to thank the air ambulance service - by trekking 62 miles in a single day.
Carla Jackson was riding in Llanymynech, which straddles the England-Wales border, when she suffered serious injuries to her face and hips and was taken to hospital by helicopter.
Since the accident, the keen runner has raised more than £2,500 for air ambulance charities through a number of challenges.
Now she is aiming to mark the 20th anniversary of her rescue by completing the Gower Peninsula 100km Ultra-Marathon tomorrow to raise funds for the County Air Ambulance HELP appeal.
It comes just two years after she was hospitalised with a brain injury after a separate horse riding accident.
Carla, aged 41, said she will always be grateful for the help of the air ambulance service following the accident in 2005.
