Families fighting threat of homes on greenbelt site

Neighbours 'strongly oppose' development

FAMILIES are fighting plans for hundreds of homes on greenbelt land.

Sites on both sides of Caverswall Lane, at Catchems Corner, has been earmarked for potential development in Stoke-on-Trent City Council's draft Local Plan. If given the go-ahead, 305 houses could be built there.

But residents of Beckenham Close, Catchems Corner, strongly oppose the land being developed.

Kevin and Jackie Williams have lived in their home for more than 40 years.

Kevin, aged 69, said: "At the moment all we see is trees. Caverswall Lane is bad enough now. It is used as a cut-through to Meir. It would struggle to take more traffic. You would think they would rejuvenate some of the brownfield sites."

Jackie, aged 68, added: "It has always been quiet down here. An increase in traffic would lead to more noise."

Robert and Janet Keen have lived in the street for 35 years.
