'Excellent scheme' to offer 'much-needed' city homes

DOZENS of homes are to be built on the site of a former army reserve centre - despite concerns over traffic and affordable housing - after city councillors gave the go-ahead.

Planning committee members welcomed the 'excellent' scheme for the brownfield site of Stonor Street, Cobridge. They said it would provide much-needed homes for the area.

The development will consist of 39 flats in two three-storey blocks, along with 14 three-bedroom houses. All will be market housing, after applicant K P Parnell Building demonstrated including 'affordable' homes would make the scheme non-viable.

Councillors raised concerns over the lack of affordable housing, as well as potential traffic problems at the junction between Stonor Street and Waterloo Road.
