He also racially abused ambulance worker

- Sentinel Reporter

VIOLENT Callum Sweeney carried out a terrifying robbery at a petrol station.

The 27-year-old was 'under the influence' after taking a pill and demanded bottles of spirits from staff at Esso in Anchor Road, Longton.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard he then used force against the worker before fleeing with the booze. But he was soon apprehended and taken to hospital where he used racist language. Now Sweeney has been jailed for 12 months.

Prosecutor Robert Holt said Sweeney entered the Esso at 10pm on August 13. He was told to leave by staff as he was barred from the shop. Mr Holt said: "Sweeney pushed past him and went into the store.

He went to the counter and till area and demanded bottles of alcohol from there. He went into the till area himself. He pushed both staff members and took bottles of spirits worth between £60 and £70.
