Don't turn down food noise!

The Sentinel

LANGUAGE needs to constantly evolve, otherwise we would all still be talking like Shakespeare, so I’m always fascinated when new words and phrases come into being.

- Susan Lee - Columnist

My daughter told me the other day the movie she'd recently seen was ‘mid’ by which she meant average, while a mate of mine referred to ‘brain rot’ when talking about her use of social media.

I even found myself, if not exactly down with the kids then surely only a couple of floors above them, after using the term ‘giving designer vibes’ when referring to a pair of M&S jeans.

And yes, since you ask, I did buy them.

So when I heard someone on the radio refer to ‘food noise’ my ears pricked up. Did they mean the pop of the popcorn in the microwave or the sizzle of a nice steak? Perhaps it was the sound, so familiar on Sunday mornings when I was a kid, of the Sunday dinner veggies screaming as they were boiled to mush?
