Bully boyfriend behind bars for controlling partner's life
The Sentinel
|April 24, 2025
A BULLY boyfriend has been jailed for controlling his partner.
Grant Wainwright would force his girlfriend to send live updates of her whereabouts and frequently accused her of cheating.
Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard the 33-year-old even made his victim have a phone holder in her car so she could videocall him while driving, so he could see where she was and who she was with at any given moment.
After moving into her home in February 2024, he would refer to her as a 'slag, 'slut, “d***head' and a 'dunce. The court heard Wainwright and the woman met in prison and struck up a relationship following his release in December 2023.
But after 14-and-a-half months, she plucked up the courage to call the police in February this year.
Prosecutor Barry White said: "On Valentine's Day 2024 there was an incident leaving the complainant in tears. He told her she had to have a phone holder in her car to video call him to prove she wasn't cheating. She had to take photos and videos to prove where she was or else he would call her non-stop.
