£4.9m plan to upgrade 15,000 streetlights in county

A £4.9 million plan to replace more than 15,000 streetlights across Staffordshire with energy-efficient LEDs is set to be discussed.

Staffordshire County Council says that, if approved, the plan could save the county £1.2 million in energy costs each year.

It would see thousands of older orange street lights replaced with modern LEDs, which use less electricity and last anywhere between 20 and 25 years compared to a regular bulb's four years.

The project would be delivered over two years by E.ON, which manages the county's highway lighting network on behalf of the authority.
