Big Ben hitting the right note to spearhead Eccleshall’s mission
The Sentinel
|September 11, 2025
FORMER England under-21s international, Stoke City prospect and Championship flyer Ben Marshall is leading the charge for Eccleshall at the moment with three goals in three games.
-
Marshall, now aged 34, was seen as a great hope for Stoke when he was snaffled away from Crewe Alexandra along with Matty Lund by short-lived academy director Steve Holland back in 2009.
Holland was soon poached by Chelsea and neither Marshall nor Lund, who had been seen as two major assets at Gresty Road, would go on to make a Premier League breakthrough with Stoke.
But Marshall did show game-changing potential with loan spells at Northampton, Carlisle and Sheffield Wednesday. He helped Carlisle beat Brentford to win the Football League Trophy with a star turn at Wembley in 2011.
