626 speeding drivers caught out as police target ‘hotspots’

MORE than 600 speeding motorists were caught out - including in some North Staffordshire ‘hotspots’ - during a joint operation between police and community volunteers.

Road crime team officers linked up with the volunteers on rural routes in the county, where 626 drivers were going ‘above the percentage threshold,’ with the fastest travelling at 70mph in a 30mph zone.

‘The initiative also saw speed cameras used in Trentham, Betley and Saverley Green.

Hundreds of Community Speed Watch (CSW) volunteers went on to hold a day of action on July 11, monitoring 49 sites.

In the north of the county the focus fell on 30mph routes. In Main Road, in Betley, 20 were caught out, with the highest speed 48mph.

Saverley Green Road, in Saverley Green, was monitored on three occasions during the day with eight caught, and the top speed 38mph.
