CM: Empowering farmers key to building a developed Odisha

ODISHA Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday reaffirmed his government's commitment to transforming Odisha's agricultural sector, stating that "agriculture and farmers' development will play a strong role in achieving the goal of a developed Odisha.

He was addressing the state-level Krushak Shakti Samavesh held at Balangir to mark the first anniversary of the state government.

Highlighting the government's focus on farmer empowerment, CM Majhi emphasized that one of the key promises made during the elections was to ensure fair returns for the toil of farmers. “We are fulfilling that promise,” he said. “With two ministers representing Balangir in the state cabinet, the district is now driving forward with a 'triple-engine' government, accelerating development at three times the pace.”

Stressing the importance of agriculture to the state's economy, the Chief Minister noted that over 60 per cent of Odisha's population depends on agriculture and allied activities. “India’s agricultural system is admired globally, and Odisha is playing its part in that story,” he said. He revealed that till May, over 78,681 units of agricultural machinery were distributed, backed by Rs 459.68 crore in subsidies via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
