US Justice Department mum on Quiboloy extradition

The United States Department of Justice has declined to comment on the reported extradition request made by the US against detained pastor Apollo Quiboloy.

"The US Department of Justice generally does not comment on extradition-related matters until a defendant is in the United States," a spokesperson for the agency said in response to an inquiry sent by The STAR. Instead, the agency referred The STAR to a 2021 press release about Quiboloy's indictment, as well as the wanted poster released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Quiboloy, currently detained at the Pasig City Jail for trafficking and sexual abuse charges, is also facing multiple charges before a federal court in California.

In 2021, he was indicted by a US federal grand jury for alleged conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion; and sex trafficking of children; sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion; conspiracy and bulk cash smuggling.
