PNR Begins Restoration of Southern Tagalog Rail Line

The Philippine Star

|

August 12, 2025

The Philippine National Railways (PNR) has started work to fully restore and upgrade its south main line, in line with President Marcos' directive to prioritize the expansion of the Bicol railway from Laguna to Quezon and the Bicol region.

- — Mark Ernest Villeza

The restoration is targeted for completion by late 2025, with full operations expected by 2026, the PNR said.

"We are fully aligned with the President's vision to reconnect Luzon through a more efficient and expansive railway system," the agency said in a statement. "As mentioned in his SONA, the Bicol Line is a strategic lifeline that we are determined to bring back to full operation."
