Pinoy priest who fought drug war among Magsaysay awardees

Fr. Flaviano Antonio Villanueva — who has been providing shelter and restoring the dignity of homeless people and victims of extrajudicial killings — is this year's Ramon Magsaysay awardee from the Philippines.
The 54-year-old Villanueva established the St. Arnold Janssen (AJ) KALINGA (Kain-Aral-Ligo naNG-umAyos) Center in 2015 to help the homeless and the poor. During the bloody crackdown on illegal drugs launched by Rodrigo Duterte, the center gave solace to the widows and families of victims of extrajudicial killings (EJK).
The priest, who was informed weeks ago that he was one of the recipients of the 67th Ramon Magsaysay Awards, said "it is a humbling occasion," and dedicated the recognition to thousands of homeless people and EJK victims.
