The Marcos administration is stepping up efforts to attract Japanese investors in the Philippines' clean energy sector in a bid to fast-track the rollout of nuclear and renewable power sources.

Energy Secretary Sharon Garin joined the Philippine delegation in Osaka for a high-level courtesy meeting and dialogue with Japanese business group Kansai Economic Federation (Kankeiren).

Kankeiren consists of around 1,300 members, including Japan's most influential conglomerates and global leaders in energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, finance and digital innovation, according to the Department of Energy (DOE).

"As one of ASEAN's fastest-growing economies, the Philippines is a gateway to green growth, innovation and long-term returns," Garin said, noting that Japan is both a "partner" and a "driving force" in the Philippines' energy transition.
