Phl Islamic Burial Act signed

President Marcos has signed a law requiring the proper and immediate burial of deceased Muslims following Islamic rites.

Republic Act 12160 or the Philippine Islamic Burial Act mandates speedy Muslim burials even without a death certificate.

Within 14 days after the burial date, the person who performed the burial rites or the deceased's next of kin should report the person's death to the local health officer.

The local health officer will certify the cause of death and issue a death certificate.

In the absence of an authorized health officer or representative, the death should be reported to the Office of the Mayor, who will prepare the death certificate and certify the cause of death.

If a forensic test is needed, the deceased's family should be informed before authorities conduct examinations.
