Panelo: ‘Welfare check’ violated Rody’s privacy

Former chief legal counsel Salvador Panelo yesterday said that detained former president Rodrigo Duterte’s privacy was violated when officials from the Philippine embassy in The Hague, Netherlands entered his detention unit to conduct a “welfare check” as disclosed by Vice President Sara Duterte.

“In my view, you are invading the privacy of the detainee, of (former) president Duterte because you did not ask for permission,” Panelo said in an interview over Net25.

Panelo contradicted the claims of critics that the visit was authorized by the former president himself.

“If there was a permission (from the former president), the members of his family would not react,” he added.
