NEW BLOOD, HORROR VETERANS IN MULTI-GENERATIONAL ‘SHAKE, RATTLE & ROLL’

Regal Entertainment is resurrecting the horror franchise “Shake, Rattle & Roll” as its entry for this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), assembling both new blood and horror veterans for a multi-generational comeback.

- By NATHALIE TOMADA

The cast includes Richard Gutierrez, Ivana Alawi, Carla Abellana, Janice de Belen, Manilyn Reynes, Loisa Andalio, Francine Diaz, Seth Fedelin, Fyang Smith, JM Ibarra, Dustin Yu, Ysabel Ortega, Ashley Ortega, Sassa Gurl, Matt Lozano, among others.

Regal president and CEO Roselle Monteverde shared how she scored the casting coup for the latest iteration of the most enduring Filipino film series.

She told The STAR during the presentation of the film’s creatives, cast and official poster reveal, “To be honest, it was hard to achieve. Napakagaling na cast and it crosses different generations. Like Manilyn, when she started (in the business) she was five years old, (I remember her) singing on the top of the dining table talking to my mom (the late Regal matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde). But natutuwa ako, because from the heart, we chose these actors according to their expertise and where they fit and who will be the most fitting for the story. That was really our criteria, like who can play their characters on point.”

Her son and Regal executive vice president, lawyer Keith Monteverde, said that team spent a full year securing the stars.

“But all the effort was worth it to bring all these people to the big screen,” he said.

For him, rebirth is personal.

“It means the world to me. ‘Shake’ was the first horror movie I saw in a theater with my lola (Mother Lily) and so upon coming back (to the Philippines to join the family business), I really wanted to do a ‘Shake.’ I'm very lucky to be able to collaborate with my mom and the entire team on this movie, which is very, very special.”
