New artist Jeno Perey's story of musical perseverance

New artist Jeno Perey continues to flex her muscles in chasing her childhood dream, which is songwriting.

So far, Jeno has released three tunes —Ituloy Mo Lang, Lakbay and So What — and she is bent on sharing more.

Jeno also belongs to that singer-songwriter group.

“Bata pa lang talaga ako mahilig na akong kumanta (I've been singing since I was young). I remember that the first song I learned to sing was Greatest Love of All for graduation,” recalled she in a virtual chat with this paper. “I was asked to sing as part of the intermission number.”

Jeno’s interest in music was further ignited when she became a member of a choir in her elementary and high school days. She also participated in jingle-making competitions as part of school events such as health and English months and in songwriting projects required in art subjects.

In college, Jeno tried her luck at singing competitions and formed a band.

“That was the time when I did have the courage to write songs and to compete,” said she, who served as the group’s lead vocalist and songwriter.

Along with her band, they reached the Top 5 at the “Globe Kantabataan,” got the chance to perform in “ASAP” and was mentored by local music personalities like Mike Villegas and Rivermaya.
