Marcos, Sara praise mothers' sacrifices

On Mother's Day, President Marcos paid tribute to Filipino mothers, whom he described as "the quiet strength behind every family."

"I sincerely honor and thank all the 'light of the home.' Thank you very much for your unparalleled love and care," Marcos wrote on Instagram in Filipino yesterday.

In the Philippines, mothers are often referred to as ilaw ng tahanan, or the "light of the home."

The President's social media post was accompanied by photos of the mothers in his life — including his wife, First Lady Liza Marcos, his mother, former first lady Imelda Marcos and his sister, Irene Marcos-Araneta.

"Mothers are the quiet strength behind every family. They care, nurture, guide and give of themselves without asking for anything in return. Their love knows no bounds and neither does their sacrifice," the Chief Executive said.

In the Philippines and in many other countries, Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May.
