House adopts new impeachment rules

Getting one-third of the more than 300 members of the House of Representatives to sign as complainants against an impeachable official will automatically send the complaint to the Senate, which, in turn, will convene itself as an Impeachment Court for purposes of trial.

This, among others, was the provision reiterated by the House in its newly published "Rules of Procedure in Impeachment Proceedings," a half-page black and white ad that can be found in the Business section (Page B4) of The STAR yesterday.

"A vote of at least one-third of all the members of the House is necessary for the approval of the resolution setting forth the Articles of Impeachment. If the resolution is approved by the required vote, it shall then be endorsed to the Senate," Section 11, titled "Vote Required for Approval," read.
