ENHANCED WORKERS' RIGHTS, WELFARE

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has made remarkable strides in protecting labor rights in 2024, solidifying its commitment to fostering a fair and equitable working environment for all.

Key initiatives this year included the ratification of pivotal International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions, the nationwide implementation of new guidelines safeguarding worker freedoms, and the regional increases to the minimum wage.

These efforts underscore DOLE's unwavering dedication to upholding labor standards and promoting social justice.

International affirmation In a landmark move, the Philippines ratified ILO Convention No. 190 on Violence and Harassment and Convention No. 81 on Labor Inspection in 2024. These conventions are cornerstones of global labor rights, addressing critical issues in modern workplaces.

Convention No. 190 recognizes the right of everyone to a world of work free from violence and harassment, including gender-based violence. The Republic of the Philippines deposited its instrument of ratification in Geneva on 20 February 2024.

With this ratification, the Philippines commits to creating a safe and respectful working environment through strengthened legislation and comprehensive support mechanisms.

Meanwhile, Convention No. 81 reinforces the importance of effective labor inspection systems to ensure compliance with labor laws and improve workplace conditions. It was deposited in Geneva on November 2024.
