DPWH to remove unfinished pumping station over QC creek

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has agreed to remove the unfinished pumping station built over a creek in Quezon City, which the local government said was implemented without proper coordination and only worsened flooding in the area.

Mayor Joy Belmonte confirmed meeting with officials of the DPWH-National Capital Region to discuss uncoordinated projects, such as the Matalahib Creek pumping station in Barangay Talayan.

"It was agreed that the project will no longer push through and the remaining P250-million fund will be allocated to a project aligned with the city's drainage master plan," Belmonte said in Filipino in a recent press briefing.

"They said they are waiting for clearance from COA (Commission on Audit), and that they already have clearance from (then) DPWH secretary Manny Bonoan," she added.

Bonoan has since resigned from his post and has been replaced by former transportation secretary Vince Dizon.
