PM Modi hails Chandigarh for being the first city to ensure implementation of 3 criminal laws
CHANDIGARH has become the first Union territory in the country where the three new criminal laws have been fully implemented, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying these new legislations are safeguarding citizens' rights by ensuring ease of justice.
The laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam—came into effect on July 1, replacing the British-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act, respectively.
Dedicating to the nation the successful implementation of the three new criminal laws, Modi on Tuesday said that under the new legislations, terrorists and terror organisations will not be able to take advantage of legal complexities.
