No entry for gig workers; students will be encouraged to use bicycles

WITH the new academic semester commencing on Monday, Anna University has directed its faculty to ensure the safety and security of the students.

The administration has directed the deans, heads of departments and faculty, to take stock of security measures like ensuring that no construction labourers engaged on the campus stay on campus after working hours under any circumstances, to prevent outsiders from parking vehicles inside the campus. If unauthorised vehicles are found, they have been asked to report the matter to the police.

According to faculty members, this is the first time that specific guidelines have been issued by the administration regarding security initiatives. "Taking lessons from a recent incident on campus, we have been directed to follow a zero-tolerance policy against any form of harassment on the campus," said a faculty member.
