Could target Israel directly as opposed to its diplomatic missions abroad; Khamenei studying attack plan; US pledges 'ironclad' support for Israel

Iran may strike Israel in 48 hrs, U.S.official says

IRAN could launch a strike on Israeli soil within 24-48 hours the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday quoting a highly-placed US intelligence official who added that Israel is preparing for a possible strike targeting either its northern regions or south.

Iran has threatened to attack Israel in retaliation for the attack on its diplomatic enclave in the Syrian capital of Damascus that killed 7 Iranians, including two generals.

The daily quoted a person briefed by Iranian leadership as saying the attack plan is on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's table and a final decision is yet to be taken.

Khamenei, the sources said, is concerned that a direct attack could backfire with the projectiles being intercepted and Israel responding with a massive retaliation on Iran's strategic infrastructure.
