Govt takes steps to address export issues

FREIGHT COSTS IN a bid to tackle the rising freight costs, shipping delays, and container shortages, commerce minister Piyush Goyal convened an inter-ministerial meeting on Thursday to address the operational hurdles faced by exporters, which have been exacerbated by current geopolitical tensions and market dynamics.

During the meeting, Goyal announced a series of measures to reduce shipping costs and enhance availability of containers. Key decisions included the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) allowing empty containers to be stored free-of-charge for up to 90 days at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), alongside substantial reductions in loading and handling fees.
