Cong petitions HC, seeks order to restrain Modi's 'hate speech’

HAVING come under continuous fire from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his electioneering on various issues, including accusations about the party's intentions to provide reservations along religious lines, Congress has knocked on the doors of the Madras High Court, seeking orders to restrain the Prime Minister from making allegedly 'derogatory' remarks, employing 'communal rhetoric' against minorities and discrediting the party.

President of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC), K Selvaperunthagai, moved the petition. Party advocate A P Suryaprakasam made a mention of the matter before the vacation bench consisting of Justices A D Jagadish Chandira and R Kalaimathi on Wednesday. He told the bench that the registry of the high court was reluctant to number the petition citing that the allegations were against the Prime Minister, and sought the court to advise the registry on the same.
