Microsoft fires 6k employees, including AI director

In its recent layoff, Microsoft let go of about 6,000 employees, or 3% of its total employees across all levels and geographies, and many employees were asked to leave immediately.
"We were asked to stop work immediately and set an out-of-office. But I chose to stay a little longer—showing up for meetings, saying goodbye, wrapping up what I could. That felt right to me," said Gabriela de Queiroz, Director of AI at Microsoft, who is one among the 6,000 employees. Earlier in 2023, the company fired 10,000 or about 5% of its total employee base globally. "I'm heartbroken to see so many talented people I've had the honor of working with being let go," she said on
