THE state government's Green School Programme may have gotten a boost with 25 participating schools cutting their electricity bills by two-thirds in a month after the installation of solar panels in their campuses, according to Vivekkumar Parasnath Yadav, assistant mission director at the Tamil Nadu Climate Change Mission.

Speaking at the Indian Chamber of Commerce's (ICC) Sustainability Conclave for the Hospitality Industry and Awards 2025, he said that 197 schools across the state have been identified for conversion into green schools, with 25 already implementing sustainability initiatives. The mission is now working to identify another 200 schools for the programme.
