Governments and health organisations are committed to achieving a TB-free future by 2030. Through strong community engagement and sustained efforts, the dream of eliminating TB will become a reality, Dr K Narayanasamy, vice chancellor, Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University tells Sinduja Jane. World Tuberculosis Day was observed on March 24. Edited excerpts:
• What is the burden of tuberculosis in the country?
According to India TB report 2024, 25 lakh patients with TB are notified annually which is 33% of the global TB notification rate. Our Sustainable Development Goal 2030 targets are 80% reduction in TB incidence, 90% reduction in TB deaths and zero catastrophic costs.
• What are the challenges in eliminating TB?
