Court to UCC petitioner: ‘You are brazenly living together without marriage’

THE Nainital High Court has questioned a petition challenging the mandatory registration of live-in relationships under the newly implemented Uniform Civil Code (UCC) asking how does this requirement invade privacy when “you are brazenly living together without marriage”.
A bench comprising Chief Justice G. Narendar and Justice Alok Mehra, while hearing a petition asked, “The state government has not prohibited cohabitation. How can privacy be infringed upon when individuals choose to live together outside of marriage? What is the underlying issue? Whose privacy is truly at stake here?”
