INDIA's push to reduce reliance on imported military hardware took centre stage as the third edition of the Defence & Technology Show which opened at the Chennai Trade Centre, attracting more than 200 MSMEs, defence officials, diplomats and private sector participants.
Inaugurating the event on Thursday, Lt Gen Karanbir Singh Brar (Retd) highlighted the government's emphasis on indigenisation across platforms, citing Operation Sindoor as proof of how domestically built systems could be integrated with foreign technologies from partners such as Russia and Israel.
He urged closer collaboration between MSMEs and institutions like IIT- Madras, signalling stronger industry-academia partnerships. Senior officers from the three services outlined sector-specific approaches.
