Mamata takes Emergency jibe at BJP, says Constitution being undermined

HITTING out at the Modi government for its decision to observe June 25 as 'Constitution murder day', West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday called it a 'mockery of democracy', asserting that her government will not observe the same.

- PREETHA NAIR @ New Delhi

She also accused the BJP of consistently attacking democratic institutions and undermining the Constitution it claims to uphold.

Last year, the government announced that it would observe June 25 as 'Constitution murder day' every year.

Slamming the BJP over what she termed as undemocratic practices, Banerjee asked whether the "toppling" of democratically elected governments in Maharashtra and Bihar by the BJP was not an attack on the Constitution.

"Those who do not respect the Constitution speak about constitutional morality. If something happens in Bengal, 155-156 teams are being sent. What happened during riots in Gujarat? They are murdering federalism and rights," said the TMC chief.
