Seated in front row, former V-P greets Radhakrishnan, maintains his characteristic warmth

- RAJESH KUMAR THAKUR @ New Delhi

More than a month after his abrupt and mysterious resignation, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar surprised everyone by attending the formal swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Vice President, C.P. Radhakrishnan, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday.

Dhankhar drew attention when, after greeting attendees, he approached Home Minister Amit Shah, who responded with a warm smile.

Seated in the front row designated for former Vice Presidents, Dhankhar, along with his wife Sudesh Dhankhar, was seen conversing with former V-P M. Venkaiah Naidu, while another former V-P, Hamid Ansari, looked on. Though it was his first public appearance since resigning on July 21, there was no visible sign of withdrawal. Instead, he maintained his characteristic warmth toward everyone present.

HARDER BATTLE FOR HEARTS & MINDS

TIME was—in the 1960s and 1970s—when the world was ostensibly a socially gentler, less structured geopolitical space, where soft power was a welcoming, well-arranged library in a tony part of the central business district, a quiet postal delivery to home, or in raucous cinemas.
