Bridge to help village cross woes

FUL mountains, lush fields greeted a group of students who had travelled through the Oro-region in Ethiopia. On their field trip, traversing the rustic village pathways in the narrow gorges. This was all paused and continued as the villagers shot up. The sight of an elderly woman trying to cross a gushing river prompted students to find solutions; some even went to the government for help, but the lack of a bridge made them give up deciding on how to get around it. However, Kannan decided he would find a solution without providing any further explanation.

Their professor, Kannan Ambalam from Ponthugam-patti, was determined to solve the problem, building a bridge using his knowledge of the local language and the challenges faced by the villagers in many rural towns where the daily lives of people fade into the background as bureaucrats accelerate the urbanisation process. Kannan decided that his efforts should be targeted at helping the villagers.
