'Unwarranted': MEA calls out Dhaka's Murshidabad remarks

INDIA has taken strong exception to Dhaka's comments on the recent spate of violence in West Bengal's Murshidabad district during protests against the Waqf amendment law.
Terming the neighbour's remarks as "unwarranted" and an act of "virtue signalling," New Delhi advised Bangladesh to turn its attention inwards and ensure the safety and rights of minority communities within its own borders.
The diplomatic exchange was triggered by a statement from Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the chief adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, who expressed concern over the safety of Muslims in West Bengal.
"We urge the Government of India and West Bengal to take all steps to fully protect the minority Muslim population," he said, in reference to the communal clashes that erupted on April 8.
