The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought UP government's reply on a plea filed by an academician from Lucknow, challenging certain provisions of the 2024 amended UP law on unlawful religious conversion.

- Suchitra Kalyan Mohanty @ New Delhi

A two-judge bench, comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, heard the plea submitted by academician Roop Rekha Verma against the amended law. "We issue notice and seek UP govt's response to the plea. Let the reply be filed. We will hear the case after that," the apex court said.

While issuing the notice, the bench sought a detailed response from the UP state on the matter and tagged the plea for hearing with other pending petitions raising similar issues.
