Fiscal deficit at 52.5% of target by Nov-end

THE Centre's fiscal deficit at the end of the eighth month of financial year 2024-25 was at 52.5% of the full-year target, according to the government data released on Tuesday.

According to the data released by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), the fiscal deficit, in absolute terms, the gap between the government's expenditure and revenue, was about ₹8.47 lakh crore during the April-November period of the current financial year.

In the Union Budget, the government projected to bring down the fiscal deficit to 4.9% of gross domestic product (GDP) in the current financial year (FY25). The deficit was 5.6% of the gross domestic product (GDP) in FY24.
