Extend power distribution scheme for two years: Panel

THE standing committee on energy has suggested extending Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), aimed to improve operational efficiency and financial sustainability in power distribution sector by two years due to slow progress.
Out of the total allocated amount of ₹30,065 crore for RDSS from FY22 to FY25, nearly ₹25,664 crore has been utilised as of February 10, 2025. However, the accumulated losses of power distribution companies (Discoms) continue to rise, from ₹5,45,418 crore in 2020-21 to ₹6,92,269 crore in 2023-24. The report highlights concerns regarding
