Vilangad landslide: Many victims rue being left out of beneficiary list

LEELAMMA PALOLI lost her house and 12 cents of farmland at Panom, a remote village in Vilangad ward in Vanimel panchayat, during the massive multiple landslides that struck the area on July 30.
"Half of my house was washed away. The place became unrecognisable after the landslide. When there was heavy rain and the place suddenly flooded with a huge bang, we ran away from our beds in search of a safe haven. Just because there were no casualties like the Mundakkai Chooralmala landslides, how can authorities neglect the plights of Vilangad landslide victims? We have been waiting for the proposed government assistance of Rs 15 lakh for eight months now and we are excluded from the latest list of beneficiaries."
