Stop following superstitious beliefs, says Women's Commission chief

REQUESTING the public, mainly from the Kadu Golla community, to stop practising superstitious beliefs of keeping the menstruating women and pregnant women outside the village and other inhuman practices, chairperson of the Karnataka Women's Commission Dr Nagalakshmi Chaudhary on Wednesday inaugurated an awareness programme at Chikkapura Gollarahatti village of Chitradurga taluk.

The event jointly held by the State Women's Commission and others at Chikkapur Gollarahatti village based on the information obtained from the women there about various government schemes, facilities, and basic amenities of the village.

The women of the village alleged that, "Eggs have not been distributed to pregnant and lactating women for the past several months at the Bharamasagara CDPO office."

Responding to this, the chairperson said that 25 eggs should be distributed to pregnant women every month. She questioned the Bharamasagara CDPO and the Deputy Director of the Women and Child Development Department, whether they were not giving priority to pregnant and lactating women.
