Russia makes a renewed pitch to India for oil

AMID rising global energy prices and escalating tensions in West Asia, Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov on Thursday reiterated Moscow's willingness to supply crude oil to India, even as instability in the region poses threat to New Delhi’s energy security.

- JAYANTH JACOB @New Delhi

His comment assumes significance in the light of recently concluded India-US trade.

“We have been open to supplying crude oil to India,” Alipov told reporters, responding to questions on Russian crude in the context of the ongoing West Asia crisis. The comment comes as global oil and gas prices surged following Iran’s effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz after the killing of its supreme leader Ali Khamenei in a US-Israel military strike, which, in turn, prompted Iran to launch attacks on US military bases across West Asia.
